Tonka Bear and I met at the Denver airport.  He was 2 1/2 years old and looking
for just the right person to take him home and give him a chance
to do all those things a smart and talented boy can do.
I was mourning the loss of my ZenMaster Max and wondering
if there was another dog big enough to fill the hole in my heart.  It was
a perfect match !

  

Tonka showed me very quickly that he was willing to do anything I asked –
and when he does something – he does it with a BANG!  He quickly showed his
talent in obedience, earning his AKC and CKC novice titles with all
1^st or 2^nd placements, and a High in Trial at the Canadian National Specialty.   
He took to draft with a passion and earned multiple draft titles as he works his
way towards becoming a master draft dog.   He surprised me with a passion for
agility – a huge dog flying around the course with more speed than finesse –
and always with a furiously wagging tail! A few ventures into the
conformation ring have given him a chance to pose and show his
enthusiasm in one more venue.    There’s nothing he won’t try!  



I secretly hoped that Tonka might be another Dual Versatility dog  –
following in the paw-prints of my other Berner boys, ZenMaster Max
and the Winter-boy.  Tonka carved his own paw prints as he made that
hope a reality, demonstrating his amazing talent at everything he tries. 



Tonka’s accomplishments include earning both his AKC and CKC championships
with Best of Breed wins, a High in Trial in obedience at the Canadian
National Specialty, multiple wins in agility in both the US and Canada,
and becoming only the 3^rd  Berner to earn the new BMDCA Master Draft Dog title.



  Tonka is a BIG boy – and everything he does is BIG - with incredible
joy and passion.  I was thrilled to have Tonka do a Freestyle Demo with me
at the Specialty in Rhode Island – another chance to try something new with my
boy who will try anything!

Our best moments together have been in the mountains, where my
Tonka Bear has hiked and climbed by my side, proudly wearing his red
doggie back pack as we explore new horizons.  He’s the partner of my dreams –
always ready for whatever I ask of him, full of heart, tail wagging,
bursting with excitement for whatever comes next.
