In 2004, Winter truly earned the honor of “Working Dog” as he earned seven
AKC working titles in less than a year! Training Winter for competition
was not an easy task, and there were times I couldn’t imagine that
we would come so far.

But Winter has taught me not to give up, and to appreciate success on
entirely new levels. Winter’s confidence has soared as he learned to
“fly” over the jumps in agility and obedience – and now that confidence
is spilling over into other areas of his life.

In 2005, Winter-boy exceeded all my expectations by earning
the Working Dog Excellent Award with his advanced titles in
obedience, agility, and draft – in addition to his championship titles!

Winter’s past accomplishments include becoming a Dual Versatility Dog,
with Versatility Awards in both the US and Canada,
Top Novice A Jumpers Agility Berner in 2004, and Top Five Obedience
Berner in both the US and Canada for his CDX legs.

Earning his Draft Dog title in 2005 gave him the Working Dog Excellent Award -
truly a hard working boy who takes doing his job very seriously.
Winter is the dog who could pull a cart with milk cans to market
and never spill a drop. His hard work and dedication is not
confined to competition – his best moments are in the mountains
where we hike, climb and ski together.

Winter celebrated his 7th birthday with a 60 mile backpacking trip,
carrying his red doggie pack as he hiked and climbed by my side
in remote wilderness areas. He protected me from bears,
kept the tent warm at night, and sat with me as we enjoyed
perfect sunsets on high mountain peaks.
Winter is not only a “Working Dog Excellent” ....
.... he is a “Mountain Dog Excellent”!

My Winter-boy is a Survivor – and one who is enthusiastically enjoying
his years as a Veteran! Winter survived a brush with the dreaded Bloat
in 2002. His Guardian Angel was working overtime and woke us at
1:00 AM – in time to get Winter to the ER vet and save his life.

In 2005 as a 7 year old veteran, Winter tore his ACL.
We decided to have TPLO surgery – and Winter’s recovery was nothing short of amazing.
Just a few months post surgery he was back competing in agility, hiking, climbing and backpacking with us again as though he had never been injured.

Winter is now 9 ½ years old and acts like a young dog in his prime.
He recently earned another agility title, and continues to be the leader as we climb
or ski to the top of remote mountain peaks.
